Marla Maples Backs Bitcoin Pioneer Roger Ver in Tax Evasion Case, Seeks Dismissal

Marla Maples who was Donald Trump's second wife made a public appeal for U.S. officials to abandon their tax evasion charges against Bitcoin pioneer Roger Ver. The appeal from Maples boosts Ver's defenders and receives additional support from Trump's Silk Road pardon of Ross Ulbricht.

Celebrities and Leaders Rally Behind “Bitcoin Jesus”

Through his Twitter account Maples promoted Ryan Fournier's video about Ver's charitable activities while christening him "Bitcoin Jesus." She posted a message that specifically included the names of Trump alongside Elon Musk, Pam Bondi and Dave Warrington, and Elon Musk while asking for action.

The supporters of Ver consist of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin along with commentator Tucker Carlson and former Bitcoinian Silk road operator Ulbricht himself. The increasing number of supporters stands behind Ver as he faces ongoing tax fraud-related legal challenges.

The Charges Against Roger Ver

In April 2024 the U.S. Department of Justice charged Ver for non-reporting his Bitcoin sales capital gains alongside other asset transactions which resulted in an IRS loss of $48 million. The Spanish authorities arrested Ver during April before allowing him to post bail until the U.S. could initiate the extradition process.

Pardon Request Faces Hurdles

In January 2024 Ver applied for a presidential pardon through Trump although Trump has given no response yet. Elon Musk declared his opposition to the pardon request during public statements because Ver gave up his U.S. citizenship in 2014. The executive admitted his doubts about offering special treatment to Ver with his statement.

The nation’s pursuit of Ver's extradition continues to generate public discussions about legal responsibilities and cryptocurrency control and jurisdictional power concerning prominent figures in court proceedings.
